Scotland – December and January Hospitality Top-up Grant

What is the aim?
• To support the hospitality sector who have lost crucial bookings during December 2021 and January 2022.

What is the nature of the grant?
• It is a one off grant payment based upon the rateable value of the business premises.
• £4,500 for premises that have a rateable value of up to £51,000 inclusive.
• £6,800 for premises with a rateable value of £51,000 +.
• The rateable value is considered to be as per the local authorities records as at 1st November 2021.
• Where an individual ratepayer has more than one eligible business, it may receive a grant for each registered business entity.

Who is administering the grant?
• Local authorities (LA).

What is the eligibility criteria?
• The business is based in Scotland.
• The hospitality business has lost crucial bookings during December and January.
• They must be registered as one of the following – pubs, restaurants, cafés, other licensed premises classed as hospitality, night clubs, hotels with bars and restaurants.
• The business must be registered for Non Domestic Rates as of 8th December 2021. Evidence of that will be required along the unique identifier number for this.
• The LA have the discretion to award grants to eligible businesses which lease or rent premise which are not rated.
• The business must be actively trading on 8th December 2021.
• It must have a business bank account.
• It must not have breached Covid-19 regulations

How will it be paid?
• By the LA.
• Where they already hold details of the business owner, the LA will contact them by the end of January 2022 to establish eligibility.
• The LA will contact new businesses (set up since April 2021) or businesses where there has been a change of use, within 14 days of receiving an application where eligibility has been established.
• Applications close on 31st January 2022.

Important to note
• The grant is taxable.
